Cities

When I was 18, I had this plan to live for a year in ten of the world's most famous and interesting cities. First up was Tokyo, and that was in the end as far as I got. (Well, I suppose you could include Yokohama, which in many ways is actually more interesting than Tokyo.) I'd still like to do it, someday. There's something about a huge metropolis - a Tokyo, a London, a New York, an Istanbul, a Paris - that makes me excited just to be alive; a small cog in a vast and incomrehensible, chaotic machine.

Hi. Thanks for visiting my blog.

You have a good plan about spending a year in a major city. What happened? I had that dream of leading a nomadic life and in some ways, I have although the places I lived in weren't those I dreamt about.

Same old story, met a girl...

But hopefully I can tempt her into that nomadic-lifestyle idea. Of course, money is the next hurdle.

Which places did you dream about, and which places did you live in?

I dreamt of Shanghai, New York, Salzburg......as you can see...all very 'up in the air' ...

So far I've lived in Ipoh, Brisbane, Penang, Kuala Lumpur and now Palembang. I am grateful for previously having a job that let me travel to a lot of those big cities...like Tokyo.

Ah, see, I'll have to get myself one of those jobs.

Salzburg would be a great city to live in. I suspect the reason you wanted to live there was because of the Sound of Music....
